MFC Courses
MORFIT is excited to offer fitness instructor courses on behalf of the Manitoba Fitness Council. Start teaching your own fitness classes!
PERKS! All participants taking an MFC course will get a free 2-month membership to our facility! We also offer a 15% discount on any additional MFC course taken within the 2 month period following the previous course.
Course Times: Unless otherwise stated; courses run at the same time during the following days:
- Fridays 7:00-10:00pm
- Saturdays 8:00-4:30pm
- Sundays 8:00-4:30pm
Exams: All written and practical exams are an additional fee and payable/organized through the Manitoba Fitness Council. Written exams are $25 for the 1st attempt ($82 for Exercise Theory), $30 for the 2nd attempt. Practical exams are $50. MORFIT is available to be used for your practical exam at no charge.
Registration/Refund Policy: Registration can be done in person or over the phone. Your spot will be secured once payment is received. There is a capacity of 12-14 participants per course. Cancellations will be given a 90% refund. If the course does not run due to less than 5 people registered, a 100% refund is issued.
Exercise Theory
Learn the basic theory behind fitness classes including leadership, health and fitness, anatomy, physiology, applied movement mechanics, principles of training, workout design and basic nutrition. This course will give you the knowledge to proceed to the practical modules. Written exam must be taken within 1 month of completing the course.
This course is a pre-requisite to all other courses.
Cost: $200 (course) + $95 (manual) + GST

Resistance Training
A comprehensive course designed to design and instruct beginner to intermediate resistance training programs for group settings such as weight room supervision or resistance training classes. This is characterized by a strong educational component and/or actually guiding this group through their workout. Written and practical exams must be taken within 6 months of completing course.

Cost: $200 (course) + $65 (manual) + GST

Individual Fitness Leader
The objective of the MFC Fitness Leader is to work effectively in an individual setting (one-on-one) within their scope of practice in the province of Manitoba. An individual Fitness Leader will be able to provide motivation and education to an individual by administering a safe program of basic exercise in order to promote physical activity. Written and practical exams must be taken within 6 months of completing course.
Pre-requisite: Resistance Training
Cost: $200 (course) + $110 (manual) + GST

Group Exercise Fundamentals
A minimum 8-hour course covering topics specific to leading group exercise classes. Topics included are: leadership, trends and media, history, legal responsibility and accountability, class components, music, movement and cueing, developing movement combinations, exercise analysis, and special populations. There is no written exam following this course.

Sport Conditioning
This 8 hour course covers topics specific to leading group exercise/sport conditioning classes. This practical based course will cover specific information for planning and developing circuit training classes. Topics include: use of portable equipment, evolution, research and guidelines, class structure and content; planning, class components, use of music, leadership; equipment exercises, movement combinations, instruction and cueing. Written and practical exams must be taken within 6 months of completing course.

Group Cycling
This 8 hour course will cover topics specific to leading group exercise cycling classes. This practical based course will help you plan, develop and lead indoor cycling classes and cover everything from bike-set-up and safely to pedaling, cadence, posture, structure, content as well as the physiology behind this type of cardiovascular training. Become a great coach with ideas about cueing, class styles and use of music. No previous cycling experience required. Each participant must be ready to ride and bring a towel, water bottle and a set of headphones. Written and practical exams must be taken within 6 months of completing course.

Choreography/Step
This 12 hour course covers topics specific to leading group exercise choreography classes. This practical based course will cover specific information for planning and developing floor-based and step based choreography classes. Topics include: history of floor-based group exercise, research and guidelines, class structure and content; planning, class components, use of music, leadership and choreography; movement combinations, instruction and cueing. *May include, but not limited to high, low, moderate impact, combination, step, bosu, cardio kickboxing, etc
Written and practical exams must be taken within 6 months of completing course.

Yoga
Based on MFC standards, the MFC Yoga Fitness Leader is able to:
- Provide initial health screening (ie. PAR-Q).
- Design, modify and instruct safe, effective and appropriate beginner yoga fitness programs to meet the needs of apparently healthy individuals or those who have received medical clearance* in a fitness yoga setting.
- Lead exercise sessions that are based on MFC standards. Bikram or Hot styles of Yoga classes as well as Inversion asanas are not included in the MFC Standards.
- Incorporate the use of appropriate equipment based on specialized training and the needs of the participants.
- Act as a resource and refer to appropriate health care providers when dealing with participants who have conditions that the Yoga Fitness Leader is not specifically accredited to address.
Our Yoga Fitness certification course runs a minimum of 35 hours and teaches the postures outlined in the Fit Flow Yoga Fitness manual and their modifications. Written and practical exams must be taken within 6 months of completing course.
